I think it is definitely meant to be a slow grind, i can spend and hour farming cloth exclusively and come away with a stack of void cloth and only 2030 unrefined silk. Little bit frustrating but i understand the reasoning. I farm a bit, decon from dungeons and questing, but i ended up getting over it and bought the rest.
Incorrect. Half of nodes are based on character/champion level, half of nodes are based on skill point investment in the first crafting passive for that line. A level 50 character with 10/10 in the metalworking passive on an account with >= 160 champion points will always see rubedite ore.

Here you can see a character mining a Rubedite Ore which contained 3 Rubedite Ore, a Grain of Pearl Sand and a Platinum Dust in it. Rarely you can also find non blacksmithing related items in an ore that are used for other purposes, in this case here Platinum Dust which is used for Jewelry Crafting whereas the Grain of Pearl Sand which is part of the Order of the Hour Style.

High iron ore can only be obtained by players of a certain level (1525) or with a certain blacksmithing skill (one point into the first passive). Most players have maxed out blacksmithing so they get rubedite, or they haven't worked on it at all so they get iron. To know if your price is fair, look at other ores (except rubedite).
The best places to grind for experience points in ESO are public dungeons. While you can still earn a lot of experience points by grinding on mobs outside of dungeons, these locations don't offer the same high XP rewards as public dungeons do. I have refined thousands upon thousands of various ore, but the larger batches have mainly been either rubedite or iron. I have done it in a batch of about 15,000 all at once as well as just 4,000 or 2,000 or even just 400 and my long term rate is about 5 tempers for every 1000 refined which is the .5% that Mallagar states.

From what I understand Rubedite was mostly found in High Rock before the One Tamriel patch for ESO. The Royal Guard armor seen in the Tribunal expansion for Morrowind is likely made from Rubedite, which makes sense considering King Helseth was originally from High Rock and lived there for most of his life.
